I would love to chat with others suffering from fibromyalgia, and also with health providers. I have had this affliction for many years, and, at last, seem to be improving. I lived in the middle of NYS for most of my life, and have recently moved to NC to be near much family and to retire. I am a new member of this Forum, and it is only my second try at posting in forums. Hope to make it quite active and to be volunteering soon.

Welcome to NC! I am Loree the Director of Development for Delta. Thanks for visiting our site and joining the forum!

What do you attribute to your improvement? My mom has had fibro for many years as well. I will let her know of this forum. Any questions you may have for me can be sent to llong@deltahealthfoundation.org.

Thanks again!

I first want to say that i do not have all the answers, but will share what has helped myself with muscular pain and what i heard this am on the Peoples Pharmacy show on NPR.

Eat fresh food, try to avoid all preservatives and that includes fast food.  I do not know that mechanism, but you WILL feel the results by cleaning up your diet.  Make sure that you are taking 1,000mg 2x daily of Fish oil or Flax oil.  Calcium with vit D is important, but more over is the daily sunlight 15 minutes to your skin without sunscreen.  Adding magnesium 200-400mg daily will balance the possible constipating effects of the calcium.  We all must get some exercise daily for 20-30 minutes.  Warm baths with Epsom Salts (magnesium) helps for acute treatment.  Wow, that is a lot to start with, but give it a try and after an honest week of lifestyle modification, let us know where you are please.

Thank you for your responses to my post. Much appreciated. I cannot tell you for sure what has happened to bring about the change, or if it will last, but, my only wish for a Christmas gift this year, (and I prayed for it fervently), was that my family members could realize how short life is and how precious family is, the sharing and caring and enjoying of each other. I have three daughters here, two granddaughters and a grandson, and we all have been anything but close knit. But, somehow, things began to come together and this Christmas and New Year Season has been one of the best of my life in reference to family.

Then, little by little last week, I began to take on a different attitude towards them, towards myself and my life. It almost felt like a great weight was being lifted off my shoulders and I began to breathe more easily and think more positively. After two years, I have managed to situate my apt. and locate all the things that I had forgotten about, and now I am ready to take up my many projects once again. I love crafts of all sorts, and also, have located a teacher of art to help me get started with my painting.

This is not to say that my body is not reacting with pain to the damp, snowy, chilly weather we are having right now. As I type, my fingers are screaming. Most of my pain is a result of not getting enough deep sleep before midnight, to repair the muscle tissues and fortify my body for another days' efforts.

I agree totally with the fresh, organic diet, much fruit, veggies, very little meat, good Atlantic wild Salmon, some chicken, and yes, the sunlight without sunscreen idea, for my skin is very fair and I usually use sunscreen heavily, but I realized it was keeping out the goodness along with the badness. So I do try to get out as much as possible. Of course there is a great deal more sunlight in NC than in NY. This is a plus.

The other new thing in my life is Paul Potts. I don't know if you have heard of him, but I discovered him on my computer through the TODAY SHOW's interview in June, and then going to YouTube and watching repeatedly his original audition on Britain's Got Talent Show with Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holland. Paul went on to win the contest and has subsequently travelled all over the world doing in his words: "what I was born to do"Sad to sing Opera.) And he does it beautifully. He has a CD out called "One Chance". I have it. But, I still go back to those original auditions and the winning sequence of events and repeatedly listen to him sing and watch his beautiful presentations and interviews. He truly has taken the world by storm and I hope he continues for many years to come. Such enjoyment is rare, indeed. The ultimate prize for winning was to sing at the Royal Variety Show in front of the Queen in December. That performance is on YouTube also, and is truly an inspiration for me. He is coming to the USA on tour, starting in March, and I hope someday to see him in person. Time will tell.

I am beginning my third year here in NC, and am acclimating nicely. I pray this will continue, but if not, I am enjoying the interim. Was truly thrilled to find this site and The Delta Health Foundation. I have a habit of picking up magazines and newspapers that are free and offer all kinds of info about the area which we live in, so I found this article in the Charlotte Woman magazine and went to computer and the rest will be history.

Time for bed for now. More later. Thanks for answering my post. Will look for more.

Love,

Olivia

Olivia,   sure sounds like you are one lady with her head on straight.  I love your new approach to family issues and believe that much will be released there.  You are well connected to arts of expression and have a wonderfully positive attitude.  We are lucky to have you in NC.  Be Well and stay connected.    Jill
